Education
Crane Park island Project offers schools, colleges and other educational establishments the opportunity to carry out valuable field studies in a safe and welcoming environment. Students of all ages can benefit from a visit to the reserve and the following are some of the areas that can be covered by our education programmes:

  1. Looking at the aquatic life of the River Crane?- the river in the vicinity of the nature reserve is safe, shallow and rich in wildlife.
  2. Measuring river depth and flow
  3. Pollution monitoring
  4. Examining erosion and deposition

Other habitats, offer further opportunity for study:
2 mini meadows
Mature deciduous woodland River bank.
These habitats are ideal for mini beast searches, tree studies, painting and sketching sessions and more.

The Project can provide a teaching pack with a full range of worksheets to help support Key Stage 1 and 2 visits.

We welcome organised school visits and encourage teachers to meet with staff on-site to discuss their needs.

There is classroom space within the old Shot tower where follow up work can be carried out. There are toilet and hand washing facilities within the building as well as storage for coats and bags.

We are happy to discuss any specific needs you may have and also welcome students who may wish to make the nature reserve a focus of study. If students are interested in species monitoring on the reserve we are always happy to hear from them and offer our support.

Informal education is an important part of our work too, Our summer holiday art activity sessions 'Art Goes Wild 'give children the chance to appreciate nature at first hand in a fun and creative way.
